WHIZ kids at a Burton school have been making waves in maths competitions.
De Ferrers Academy pupils Joshua Payne, Megan Thomson and Tom Furzeman, all 14, and Leah Haddow, 15, took part in a contest organised by the Further Mathematics Support Programme and Loughborough University.
The team finished in a respectable fifth place, out of the 15 which entered.
Joshua and Owen Harrison, 15, also received gold certificates after taking part in the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust Challenge.
Joshua finished in the top 500 of the country and will take part in another challenge at the end of March where he will have the chance to compete for a medal.
Samantha Betts, Key Stage 4 leader of maths said: “Josh and Owen have done amazingly well to achieve a gold certificate.
“Even achieving a bronze is challenging.”
