THE founder of a South Derbyshire charity which provides seaside holidays for families of seriously ill children has collected a cheque for more than £4,000.

Ticknall-based Maria Hanson, of Me & Dee, was presented with an impressive £4,184.22.

This was half of the amount raised from the Rolls-Royce Apprentice and Graduate Ball with the Ryan Lee Trust.

Ms Hanson said: "This will cover our lovely beach hut for our Me & Dee special moment families, with thanks to Dan Mason and Jonathan Handford of Ybcmdesigns for the fabulous beach hut sign.

"It takes a massive £18,840 to send the families away on holiday just for this one year in two caravans and two beach huts.

"Me & Dee has no paid staff at all, no fund-raising committee or grants, just public and company support – and this is such a fantastic amount towards that huge amount needed."
