MORE than 230 people have settled into their seats for an evening of English concert favourites and to raise money for charity.
Ashby Rotary Club held the concert at Holy Trinity Church, Ashby, to celebrate St George’s Day and £1,300 was raised for Rotary charities.
The concert, performed by the Ashby Concert Band, included traditional English favourites by Elgar, Holst and Vaughan Williams, as well as modern contributions from Lloyd Webber and Lennon and McCartney.
Cartoonist Bill Tidy introduced the concert and there was a video presentation by Manor House School pupils on what England meant to them.
Bob Ferguson, Ashby Rotary president, said: “I congratulate the band for their most enjoyable performance, and also thank people for their generosity. I can promise you that the money raised will be put to effective use.”
