A SHOPPING centre manager said he was ‘disappointed’ to lose a popular sweet shop after it opted to leave after just a year.

The Kandy Factory’s name has disappeared from Burton’s Octagon centre as its owners search for a premises which will allow them to open at night.

The store was hailed as the saviour of the upper part of the centre, which had previously been described as being ‘dead’, when it opened last year, with its theme days at Halloween, Christmas and Easter drawing in the crowds.

Centre manager Peter Hardingham said: “The lease ended and they pulled out. They wanted a place that was easier to operate at night.

“It is disappointing to lose them, but it is their choice.”

It is not all bad news for the centre, however, with the unit quickly being snapped up by Julie’s Design, which has relocated from Station Street.
