AN appeal that was made against a South Derbyshire District Council decision to deny planning permission has been dismissed.

The application in question, to build a detached building to serve as a double carport and store at The Old Barn in Trent Lane, Melbourne, was refused on May 15.

An appeal was launched by the applicant and has now been rejected on the grounds of the effect on the Kings Newton conservation area and to preserve the setting of the grade II listed Elms Farmhouse, following a visit to the site by South Derbyshire District Council inspector Chris Hoult.
