Boxing night at Belvedere

BURTON ABC are holding an open night of boxing at Belvedere Park Club next Thursday.

generic online sports 5Star turn Fraser Clarke will not be on the bill as the teenage banger is out with an ankle injury, but fellow young guns Tom Shaw and Leon Gower will be strutting their stuff in the ring.

Former England Schoolboy Shaw, 19, has recently been selected to train with the England squad, after a successful 2009 which saw him reach the semi-finals of the Junior ABA.

Bantamweight Gower, 16, also reached the last four of that contest, as well as the CYP semi-final.

Burton coach Richie Joyce said: “There will be a few lads having their first bout, so we are looking for more support from people to come down and watch them box.

“Midlands shows are few and far between because clubs are struggling to put them on as they cost a lot.

“Thats why we are only putting on two a season, so people should come down to this one.” The doors open at 7.15pm, with boxing scheduled to start at 8.15pm.

Tickets cost £10 for adults, £5 for children, and are available by calling 01283 543121 or 07970548712.
