WOODVILLE boxer Duane Parker is looking forward to a "massive" 2010 as he prepares for his return to the ring after a long layoff.
Parker has not fought since last June after an appendix operation stalled his career.
But the light-middleweight fights at the Hilton Hotel in Birmingham on February 22 hoping to kick-start his charge towards a championship challenge.
And the popular 22-year-old has been handed an added incentive to bring a belt back to South Derbyshire.
His girlfriend, Amy Moss, is set to give birth to the couple's first child on March 5 and Parker is aiming to continue his 100 per cent record to help secure his family's future.
PJ Rowson, of promoters First Team, hopes former Burton ABC star Parker will be in contention for the title challenge before the end of the year.
The most likely targets are the Midlands area and British Masters belts.
Parker said: "I can't wait to get back in the ring because it's potentially a massive year for me.
"I'm not far away from a title shot if I can keep winning and improving."
Parker has put together eight straight wins since he moved into the paid ranks and was showing the best form of his career until he was sidelined by the appendix operation.
Last time out at Burton's Meadowside Leisure Centre in June, he beat Derby's Luke Gallear 59-56 over six rounds Before that, Parker the son of former professional Darren outpointed Jason Nesbitt in a show at Cheltenham.
