TOM Shaw has been told he needs a cool head to become a knockout king.
The 20-year-old from Burton continues his professional boxing education in Bury on Saturday night when he boxes tough-guy Jason Carr on a Hatton Promotions bill.
Carr has never been stopped in 14 previous fights and the Sheffield scrapper has shared a ring with former ABA champions Bradley Evans and Joe Hughes, who is tipped to be the new Ricky Hatton.
Manager Errol Johnson is convinced Shaw has the power to beat Carr before the final bell of their four-round lightwelterweight fight if he keeps his cool.
Johnson said: “Tom hits hard enough to knock out Carr, I’m sure of that. He will definitely have a go.
“But he needs to keep his cool. He has to make sure he doesn’t get too excited looking for the knockout. Tom sometimes tries too hard to land the big punch.
“He can box and needs to use his skills to create the openings. Tom has a good variety of punches and needs to show it.
He has to work off his jab and target the body as well.
“He has all the skills and punches in the book and will need to show them as he steps up in class.”
Shaw has won every round of his first two professional fights and if he beats Carr on Saturday Johnson hopes to reveal details of his fourth fight in the next couple of weeks.
Top-of-the-bill on the show at Castle Leisure Centre is an eliminator for the WBA super-bantamweight championship between Scott Quigg and Franklin Varela from Venezuela.
