BURTON Albion have called on the club’s fans to pour through the turnstiles on Saturday for the crunch promotion clash with Exeter City.

The Brewers are right in the hunt for promotion to League One – surprising many pundits who predicted another year of struggle – and demolished top-seven rivals Fleetwood Town 4-0 last week.

Now, chairman Ben Robinson has asked for the fans to reflect on how far the club has come in just 10 years, ahead of a massive game against the Grecians.

“It’s interesting to reflect on things at this point,” the chairman told Mailsport.

“It’s the highest the club’s ever been in its existence and 10 years ago we were playing in the Southern League.

“There’s an issue generally that football attendance are down nationally, but this is a good time for the Burton public to take stock – they’ve got a Football League club representing the town up and down the country every weekend.

“This will be a good time, if they’ve not been down to the Pirelli, to come and support their team.

“There are so many advantages to the community of having a successful team.”

The Brewers have had a brilliant season so far, sitting third in the table and reaching the third round of the FA Cup, as well as the third round of the League Cup.

Manager Gary Rowett echoes Robinson’s sentiments ahead of the Exeter clash, with Albion looking for a seventh successive home victory.

“What you’ll see on a Saturday is a wholehearted performance for the club and for the fans,” he said. “They’re a really committed and honest bunch of players.

“It’s only beneficial if the fans can get behind us. They can make a huge difference to the players with their support and I think that’s key.

“They can make a massive difference to us in our remaining games.”

Albion’s 400 or so fans who made the journey to Fleetwood on Saturday were rewarded with the best away performance and result since the club was promoted to the Football League.

And a party atmosphere descended on the Lancashire coast.

“It was brilliant,” said Rowett. “If we can create that party atmosphere at the Pirelli it’d be great.

“We should all celebrate what we’ve achieved so far and we’ve got the ambition to go even further.

“There’s a really good atmosphere about the place at the moment and everyone connected to Burton should be proud.”
