Bell, 29, in his third spell at the Pirelli Stadium following loans in 2005 and 2007, was signed on an initial one year deal prior to the start of the current campaign.
The former Crewe Alexandra man has been in impressive form for Gary Rowett’s side this term, making 42 starts in all competitions.
Bell said: ‘It’s good to have my future sorted out and now it’s all about focusing on the run-in and let’s see where we can finish in the table.
‘It’s a fantastic, well-run club.
“The manager and the players are ambitious so it’s great to be part of a club that is really moving forward.
“And hopefully we can achieve something this season.
