BURTON Albion have given rookie defender Kristian Ramsey-Dickson the chance to make the leap from the Midland Combination to the Football League.
The pacy 22-year-old defender has signed a sixmonth contract at the Pirelli Stadium after impressing on trial.
Ramsey-Dickson has been playing this season for little known Birmingham outfit Continental Star, but Brewers boss Paul Peschisolido said: “We think we can make something of him.”
The former Pizza Hut worker had been spotted by Albion scouts and has featured in three reserve games for the Brewers.
Peschisolido said: “Sometimes in life people need breaks, and Kristian hasn’t had many up until now. It’s an opportunity for him. He is raw and hasn’t played at any level yet.
“He is on a six-month contract and the first couple of months will probably be about getting him fit and teaching him to be a professional footballer. He’s a lovely lad and trains with a smile.
“You look at his frame, his size and his pace and he’s definitely got potential. We will see how quick a learner he is, it’s up to him now.”
Ramsey-Dickson has only been a defender for two years after starting his career as a striker.
He said: “I used to run 10.3 (seconds) in the 100 metres and in those days I played striker.
“Now I’ve changed position and it’s got me somewhere. It feels like I’m part of the team already, it’s crazy.
“I’ve only been playing centre- back for two years now.
Every day I’m learning in training.
“Now I’m full-time at Burton Albion, I can’t even describe how it feels.
“I’ve worked hard and got my head down. I need to get fit, get my positioning correct and hopefully I can be in the first team.”
Ramsey-Dickson will wear the number 28 shirt.
