GARY Rowett is delighted to have sealed the signing of experienced defender Shane Cansdell-Sherriff on a three-month loan deal.
The 30-year-old trained with the Brewers yesterday after arriving at the Pirelli Stadium from League One outfit Preston North End.
“With the current injuries and suspensions, I felt it was important to bring in cover at the back,” said Rowett.
“We’re delighted to have acquired the services of Shane, who has experience at playing both League One and League Two football.
“He’s a versatile player and one we’ve had our eye on for a while.
“He certainly fits the bill for what we need at the moment and I have no doubt he’ll prove an asset to the club during his time here.”
Australian Cansdell-Sherriff has made more than 250 appearances in the Football League and counts Shrewsbury Town, Tranmere Rovers and Rochdale –on loan twice – among his former clubs.
Born in Sydney, he was a youth player at Leeds United but left Elland Road without making a senior appearance.
He later played at the back with Ian Sharps as Shrewsbury reached the League Two play-offs in 2010/11.
“I’m pleased to be here and I’m looking forward to it,” said the left-footed defender. “I’ve had a good first training session with the lads this morning and hope to be involved on Saturday.
“It’s an ambitious team and a club that wants to move forward and hopefully we can achieve success this season.”
