BURTON Albion boss Paul Peschisolido has not ruled out the possibility of bringing in new blood before the transfer window closes next week.

Peschisolido currently has a bulging 24- man squad but has revealed he will continue his recruitment drive if the right players become available.

He said: “There are a couple of people who I have in mind who I think would certainly bring something extra to the squad in terms of quality.

“Whether I get them or not is another matter because sometimes I set myself targets that some people might think unrealistic.

“But if you don’t ask, you don’t get — as we proved when we got Darren Moore to sign for us.” The veteran former Derby County man had been offered a new contract by Championship club Barnsley, but Peschisolido came up with an attractive package that persuaded the central defender to move to the Pirelli Stadium on a two-year deal.

Peschisolido’s main target is thought to be a big striker after he failed in his attempt to sign Scott Rendell from Peterborough United during the close season.

The Brewers boss did sign Liverpool teenager James Ellison, but he is thought to be looking for a more experienced player in a different mould to his current first-choice partnership of Shaun Harrad and Greg Pearson.

Peschisolido does not expect any developments before tomorrow’s League Two encounter away to Cheltenham Town.

He said: “I’ll be surprised if anything happens before the weekend and it’s probably unlikely that we’ll get anyone in at all.

“But that won’t stop me from trying to get somebody in right up to the transfer window closing.” Peschisolido said his main concern was to keep together the squad assembled over the summer months.

He explained: “I’ve said all along that I’m very pleased with the squad, but what’s more important is that we keep them together “I think we’re a force to be reckoned with at present and I don’t want to lose anyone.

“I’m very happy with the squad and the mentality of the players, and we want to achieve the most we can.”
