Rowett lauds Burton Albion coaching staff

GARY Rowett has heaped praise on his backroom team at Burton Albion.

The Brewers boss is enjoying a succcesful first full season at the helm after stepping in as caretaker manager for the final 10 games of last season following the sacking of Paul Peschisolido.

Albion have reached the third round in both the Capital One Cup and the FA Cup and are currently in a handy sixth place as they try to mount a serious challenge for promotion from League Two.

A successful run in December — marred only by a 3-2 defeat at Barnet — resulted in Rowett picking up the manager of the month award.

But the Brewers boss insists the progress made since last season’s relegation struggle is a team effort off the pitch as well as on it.

Rowett revamped Albion’s backroom set-up in the summer, bringing in Kevin Summerfield as his No 2 and has recruiting sports scientist Jack Sharkey and match analyst Daniel Sale.

They have joined forces with existing coaches Kevin Poole and Mark Sale and physio James Rowland to create a more professional environment.

The Brewers boss has also recently recruited former Chesterfield chief scout Dave Thompson.

Rowett said: “Now is a great time to say how pleased I am with how the staff have gelled and grown into the job.

“These guys have come together and played a big part in pushing things on in terms of coaching, training, rehab work, the medical side of things and scouting - all the elements that need to work well.”
