BURTON Albion suffered only their second defeat in 16 League Two matches last night as they went down 2-0 at Bristol Rovers.
The Brewers’ excellent run away from the Pirelli Stadium also came to an end with a first league defeat on their travels since the 2-0 reverse at Dagenham & Redbridge in November.
The Memorial Stadium again proved an unhappy hunting ground for Gary Rowett’s men, having lost there 3-0 last season and 7-1 the year before.
And Rovers were again well on top, with David Clarkson and John-Joe O’Toole netting second-half goals to see off the Brewers.
While the Gas had been the better side and Burton had ridden their luck at times, the frustration came from holding the hosts at bay for 70 minutes before conceding two late goals.
The first goal was also entirely avoidable as an isolated Chris Hussey was caught in possession, while the second came as the Brewers were looking to get themselves back in the game.
Last night’s performance was far removed from the one which netted a 1-1 draw at Rochdale in midweek – but with plenty of games left it is far from a blow in the race for automatic promotion.
