Zola and Kee fire Albion to victory

STRIKERS Billy Kee and Calvin Zola scored in the same game for the first time this season as Burton Albion bounced back from the disappointment of Friday night’s 3-2 defeat at Barnet, writes GLENN BROOKES.

Albion BadgeThis time the 3-2 result went their way as Kee scored twice and Zola once as the Brewers responded from being pegged back at 2-2 having taken a 2-0 lead in the first half.

The Brewers took the lead in the 15th minute after a foul on midfielder Robbie Weir by Dale skipper Peter Cavanagh which incensed visiting boss John Coleman.

Kee, who had given his side a 16th minute lead at Barnet on Friday night from the penalty spot, fired a low shot through the end of the wall and into the far corner.

It was 2-0 on 25 minutes and this time it was Kee the provider.

Zola flicked on goalkeeper Dean Lyness’s goalkick into the path of his strike partner and Kee returned it with a neat back-heel which allowed the former to stroke a low shot into the corner of the net for his 10th goal of the campaign.

Despite Albion dominating the first half, the visitors pulled one back out of the blue three minutes before the break.

Midfielder Andrew Tutte chipped in a free-kick which was headed out by Albion right-back Anthony O’Connor only as far as Cavanagh, who lashed a first-time volley into the top far corner despite keeper Dean Lyness getting a touch to it.

The visitors were level nine minutes into the second half and it was a nightmare for returning central defender Nathan Stanton.

Collecting the ball midway inside his own half, he had the chance to clear, but delayed too long and when he decided to pass it back to Lyness, striker Bobby Grant nipped in, beat the Brewers keeper to the ball and then cut inside from the left and fired it into the net despite left-back Damien McCrory having got back on the line.

However, the visitors were back on level terms for just three minutes as Zola fired over a cross from the right by-line and Kee was there virtually on the line to chest it home.
