Port Vale v Burton Albion

Port Vale v Burton Albion

TEAM NEWS: Burton Albion boss Paul Peschisolido handed debuts to winger Lionel Ainsworth and midfielder Matt Harriott at Port Vale.

The duo were signed on month loans earlier in the day from Shrewsbury Town and Sheffield United respectively and they went straight into a depleted Brewers side.

Central defender Nathan Stanton, injured in the 2-0 home defeat by Southend United on Saturday, missed out, so Ryan Austin came into the starting line-up.

However, winger Jimmy Phillips, also injured at the weekend, passed a fitness test and lined-up in a three-man attack in Peschisolido’s 4-2-1-3 formation.

Harriott and Jack Dyer were in front of the back four, with Adam Bolder ahead of them.

Up front, former Vale striker Justin Richards was flanked by Phillips and Ainsworth.

Still missing were Billy Kee, Calvin Zola, Jacques Maghoma, John McGrath and Lee Lucas.

Left-back Aaron Webster was making his 568th Burton Albion appearance – taking him above Phil Annable to second on the club’s all-time list.

VALIANTS (4-1-2-3): Tomlinson; Loft, McCombe, Collins, R Taylor; Griffith; Marshall, Shuker; Dodds, M Richards, Rigg; subs: Martin, Pope, Williamson, Morsy, K James.

BREWERS (4-2-1-3): Atkins; Corbett, T James, Austin, Webster; Harriott, Dyer; Bolder; Ainsworth, J Richards, Phillips; subs: Palmer, C Taylor, Yussuf, Gurrieri, Blanchett.
