Burton RFC coach Steve Briggs is hoping his high flyers can stay in the promotion hunt as they head into a tough October unbeaten this season.
After hosting Whitchurch tomorrow, kick-off 3pm, the second-placed Crofters take on Hereford and Lichfield at home, either side of a trip to Kenilworth.
And with several changes to the team, Briggs has said that the squad’s depth will be fully tested.
“We’re playing three of the top four teams this month,” said Briggs.
“The team will hope to build on a great start to the season with the start of a massive month where the squad depth will be fully tested.”
The Crofters might soon be able to call on Dominic Taylor after the back row forward re-signed for the club.
Taylor grew up in the junior ranks and – as a marine – represented the navy in a game against the army.
“Spuddy (Taylor) is one of the most committed players I’ve ever coached at all levels,” said head coach Steve Smith.
“He loves playing and we can’t wait to see him strutting his stuff at Peel Croft in the near future.”
There will be a number of changes to the team from the side which beat Berkswell and Balsall, as Ben Cook comes in for his home debut at seven after impressing as a replacement.
Ed Henry comes onto the bench fully rested after a shoulder injury, while Will Roach retains his blindside flanker berth after moving to the position for last weekend’s win.
In the back line, Harry Titley again starts at full-back with Lawrence Betty (pictured) retaining his place at centre after scoring a brace of tries.
Joe Briggs moves into the As, reflecting the competition for places within the back row at the club.
The evergreen Charl Neethling returns to the squad as front row replacement to add strength, with Stuart Hutton moving to the As.
BURTON are close to forming their first ladies team in seven years.
The side currently has a mixture of inexperienced players as well as some who have played previously, but with the numbers still slightly short, any women interested in playing should contact the club, with training every Wednesday at Peel Croft, 7-8.30pm.
