BURTON RFC will retain their amateur status despite promotion to the National League system.
The Crofters have confirmed they will stay in the unpaid ranks after an Internet site gave out false information.
After winning the Midlands One title to secure a place in National League Three, the club decided to try and attract more players to increase the strength in depth of their squad.
The club “advertised” on a specialist website — only to discover it announced that salaries were “negotiable”.
The error has now been corrected, much to the relief of club president John Lowe and chairman of playing and coaching Andy Peach.
The Peel Croft officials said in a joint statement: “At Burton, we are committed to promoting the benefits of rugby throughout the local community.
“It is our policy to remain an amateur club and utilise the home-grown talent from the club’s very strong mini-junior section. However, we also appreciate the club needs to make any possible new players aware of our aspirations and the facilities we offer.
“So, by proactively seeking new players at all levels, we can increase the club’s playing strength and any increased monies generated go into the club to develop and improve facilities to allow the club to continue to prosper in the future.
“Clubs like ours rely on the hard work and commitment of volunteers and unpaid staff to ensure that, both on and off the pitch, we are always working to develop and improve for the future.
“The recent achievement in attaining the RFU Whole Club Seal of Approval enables us to do this and monitor our progress.”
