BURTON Cons put aside their Presidents Cup final disappointment by beating JUST WOOD PREMIER DIVISION title contenders Ivanhoe A 5-3 on their own patch.
Cons skipper Mick Simpkins led from the front in beating Andy Marriott in two quality frames – and bagged a 35 break.
Owen Jones and Ian Rennocks played out two tight frames with both making some good pots but Jones just had the edge to give Cons the perfect start.
Ivanhoe did make a fight of it, with Daniel Blunn playing out of his skin to take a frame off John Shilton, who replied a rapid 43 break with plenty of quality pots to win his frame.
Anthony Moore, who is playing some fine snooker, got the upper-hand against Stuart Roberts, winning both frames and knocking in a 32 break.
Second-placed Newhall A beat Tutbury A 7-1 to push them further into the relegation mire.
Mark Satchwell got Newhall off to a great start by taking both frames off Colin Bell while producing a fine 46 break.
Wayne Brewin continued the good work with a comfortable two-frame win over Daz Lester.
Brewin compiled the highest break in the league this week with a 66 which included some superb potting and positional play.
Newhall’s Fran McInulty built a 45 break on his way to taking both frames off Paul Atterbury. Tutbury’s captain Alan Davies took their only frame as he deservedly drew with Darren Noble.
SDSC B have came down to earth with a bang after a couple of good results, losing at home to Willington A 6-2.
Willington made the perfect start when Gary Barker put on a confident display to beat Garton Bloors.
Wayne Peira enjoyed a good night, making breaks of 35 and 31, in taking two comfortable frames off Andrew Bloor.
Carl White drew with Bill Stewart in a couple of scrappy frames to get SDSC on the score-sheet. In another tight match Simon Orpwood drew with Jan Pawlazych.
Ivanhoe B eased their relegation worries with a fine 6-2 win at Willington B. John Skellett gave Ivanhoe the start they wanted with a solid display in taking both frames off Lionel Lewis.
Andy Jenkins won Willington’s first frame of the night as he drew with Jason Pickering. Mark Pickering then took both frames off Tony Clements to seal the win.
Brendon Mattley improved the score-line for Ivanhoe by drawing with Steve Gaunt.
Belmont A let a win slip away from them after being 3-1 in front against Rileys A. The consistent Ian Archer, who produced a 32 break in the opener, comfortably beat Kevin Chilton.
But after the fine Belmont start Ade Harper completed the Rileys comeback with two good frames of snooker to beat Shaun Gebbie and earn his side a draw.
John Davis earned SDSC A a draw against Tutbury B after winning the two final frames on the night while Belmont B lost at home to Ivanhoe C 5-3 with Ivanhoe’s Steve Cockeram the only player to win two on the night,
THE final of the Presidents Cup was played out in a round robin between the winners of their respective division.
Burton Cons A, Rileys B and Swad Cons C were in action and it was a close run thing – with the winner being decided on the final pink of the last frame when Paul Fox potted what proved to be the final ball against Owen Jones for Rileys to take the Presidents Cup.
