Park looking to break their Quarndon bogey

LULLINGTON Park will be looking for a club first tomorrow when they visit Quarndon in the Derbyshire Premier League.

cricket onlineAs well as avening a recent cup defeat, Park skipper Jonny Shales has another reason for wanting a victory.

He said: “Quarndon are a dangerous side with several quality players, but it’s a game that I’d really like to win as we have never beaten them in the league,” he said.

Park go into the contest looking to bounce back from a defeat against Alvaston & Boulton that was symptomatic of their failure to defend the title they won for the first time last season.

Shales said: “Last week was really disappointing because we should have won the game.

“We lost a couple of wickets at the wrong time and we should never have been in the position where we had only one wicket left in the last over.

“Matt Sanderson and Paul Dawson batted really well and when we were in the field we really tied them down after they had a good start.

Left-arm spinner George Chapman returns to the Park line-up but batter Sam Eaton will not be risked because of a shoulder injury.

Shales said: “Sam has been struggling with his shoulder for most of the season and last week he aggravated it in the field, which meant he had to sit out majority of it and then bat at 10.

“He did make himself available but taking into account our situation in the league, where we haven’t really got a lot to play for, I’d sooner give him a rest.

“He is playing in Australia over the winter and the last thing he needs is to go out there carrying an injury.” DUNSTALL are still hoping they can claim the local bragging rights by pipping Ticknall to fourth place in the table.

The Deer Park side have a 31-point deficit to make up with three games remaining - including Ticknall away on the final day.

Ahead of tomorrow’s visit to Alvaston & Boulton, skipper Martin Clewley said: “It was nice to get back to winning ways against Ilkeston last weekend.

“We thoroughly deserved it and it’s kept us in the congested pack in the middle of the table who all have a chance of finishing in the top four.

“That’s our aim and that’s what we’re focused on achieving. A couple more wins in the last three games gives us a great chance of doing that, which would be a remarkable season particularly considering this time last year we were scrapping to stay in the division.

“We’ve been more consistent this year the batting unit has really stepped up, with key contributions from several players, and we’ve bowled well as a unit as well.

“We were down on our luck last year, it was a horrible feeling thinking we could be relegated and I’m delighted we haven’t had to go through that again this time around.
