NIGEL Clough sprung a surprise by naming Luke Varney to face Cardiff City this afternoon.
The 27-year-old striker, who has not made an appearance for the Rams for a year, comes in after Rob Hulse was ruled out with an Achilles injury.
The other changes see Gareth Roberts replace Dean Moxey at left-back and Paul Green come in for Ben Pringle in midfield
