Commons due to be offered new deal by the Rams

TOM SLOAN

DERBY County are confident of agreeing a new deal with star player Kris Commons.

Derby County Kris CommonsThe 26-year-old playmaker is out of contract at the end of the season as his three-year deal expires at Pride Park.

The former Nottingham Forest man, who joined the Rams under former boss Paul Jewell, went public last week on his desire for a new deal with Derby.

He wants no repeat of what he experienced at Forest, when he says the club failed to offer him a new contract despite promising to on several occasions.

But Rams president Tom Glick says Commons will be offered something.

He said: “We had discussions with Kris and his agent in the summer and all parties agreed to leave it until after the transfer window closed.

“We are now at that point. We are conscious he is in his final year and we are delighted he says his future is at Derby County.

“I think we know if Kris can stay fit then he is a game-changer.

“He has shown a great willingness to help himself stay fit.

“We expect to be speaking to him about his future.” Commons has made a superb start to the season, scoring two goals in the first four Championship matches before being ruled out with a hamstring problem.

However, he should be back fit after the international break.

Meanwhile, Rob Hulse has finally completed his transfer to Queen’s Park Rangers.

The 30-year-old striker’s move was ratified by the Football League yesterday, finally ending uncertainty over Hulse’s future.

QPR have paid the Rams £750,000 for the striker, rising with add-ons, and he has signed a three-year contract.
