DERBY County's nine-game unbeaten run was ended by a Jean Beausejour strike in the 69th minute of the New Year's Day clash against Wigan Athletic at the iPro Stadium.
In a strangely toothless display from the Championship's top scorers in the first hour, the Rams managed just one shot on target against a formidable Wigan Athletic side fighting to mount a belated promotion charge.
Beausejour's left-footed effort sparked Derby into life.
Simon Dawkins and Jeff Hendrick had efforts blocked before Will Hughes was denied by Latics keeper Ali Al-Habsi.
Jake Buxton sent a header wide in the latter stages before Chris Martin also struck wide from close range.
Derby and Wigan had not played out a draw in 12 previous competitive meetings.
That sequence or results without a draw continues, but sadly for the Rams, this time it was the Latics who claimed all three points despite six minutes of injury time.
