FULL-TIME: Leicester City 4, Derby County 1

Written byDOM MILLS

LEICESTER CITY demonstrated their Championship credentials by inflicting the heaviest defeat of the season on Derby County.

The Rams arrived at the King Power Stadium boasting the best away record in the division. But that record counted for little as the Foxes powered to a 4-1 victory, enjoying some 25 shots on goal in the match.

Derby were given brief hope when Ritchie de Laet’s own goal pulled the score back to 2-1 before the hour mark.

But David Nugent and Jamie Vardy put the game to bed with half an hour still remaining.

Nugent had given Leicester a two-goal cushion at the start of the second period.

The hosts were also in the ascendency in the first half, and de Laet's 25th minute strike gave the Foxes the edge.

It could have been worse for the Rams with Liam Moore and Vardy both hitting the bar in the latter stages of the half.
