LIVERPOOL’S Andre Wisdom remains a target for Derby County, who hope to tie up a loan deal in the next day or so.
Derby feel the 20-year-old defender’s versatility would boost their squad.
Wisdom can play right back or centre-half. The England Under-21 captain (pictured) has made 22 appearances for Liverpool, including three this season.
The Rams have made a move in the emergency loan market after their injury problems increased at the weekend when centre back Zak Whitbread limped off in the first half of the victory at Watford.
Whitbread, on loan from Leicester City, had a scan on his calf yeaterday and Derby are waiting for the results.
“Zak had a problem with his calf, it’s not something that’s new – he’s had it before,” said first-team coach Paul Simpson.
“We will wait and see how he is and fingers crossed the injury is not too bad, but it does leave us a little bit light in that defensive area.
“Obviously, the fact Zak got injured at the weekend has speeded up that need to bring in some reinforcements.”
When asked about the bonus of having versatile players in the squad, Simpson said: “Having players who are versatile does help and it’s important because we are very light in numbers.
“Hopefully, after the international break coming up we’ll have two or three more bodies available to us including Jeff Hendrick, Johnny Russell and James Bailey, and Ben Davies as well.”
