Ford focus sees Swans to victory

STEVE Ford continued his 100 per cent record in JUST WOOD PREMIER DIVISION with two frame wins to help Stapenhill A to a 5-3 win at Rileys A.

Rileys struggled against a resolute Stapenhill team, as the encounter started close, with three frames apiece, including two from the home side’s Martin Riddell and a matching pair from Stapenhill’s Andy Tomlinson.

Ford then showed why he is still yet to drop a frame in the league this season with some steady potting and thoughtful snooker, taking both his frames to bag the points for the Swans.

Rileys B faired better with an excellent away win at South Derbyshire Snooker Centre A.

The home side started well, with Adam Harrison making a 32 break while winning both frames, but these were the only frames for the home side though as they succumbed to a 6-2 defeat.

Jonathon Fletcher produced a 44 break for Burton Cons A in their 6-2 win over Ashby Ivanhoe B.

Ian Rennocks replied with a 38 of his own to share the honours, but Stuart Roberts and Owen Jones secured two-frame successes to see Burton to the win.

Mark Satchwell compiled breaks of 38 and 52 in his convincing two-frame win for Woodville Working Mens Club A against Tutbury A.

Fran McInulty and Daz Lester both made breaks of 32 as this tie ended even at 4-4.

PRESIDENTS DIVISION ONE local rivals Belmont B and South Derbyshire Snooker Centre D met with their league positions counting for nothing as the SDSC side ran out impressive 7-1 winners.

The score though belied the close frames fought out in this skirmish, as two frames went to the black ball for the win.

Tony Clements made the difference for Rileys C away against Stapenhill C, as with all the opponents level, Clements pocketed both frames for the 5-3 win.

South Derbyshire Snooker Centre C went 3-1 up against Burton Cons B but Dave Plunkett pilfered both his frames, sinking a 47 break en route, to share the honours 4-4.

The division’s leaders, South Derbyshire Snooker Centre B, were held to a draw by Ashby Ivanhoe B, with good safety play the theme from both sides in this contest.

Alan Orpwood’s 35 break was not enough as he lost both his frames for Drakelow A against Rolleston B in a DAVID WAIN INSURANCE DIVISION TWO fixture that saw the Rolleston side run out 7-1 victors.

Rileys D had a 6-2 triumph against Stapenhill C to keep pressure on at the top of the division, with Paul Fox and Adam Farrington winning all their frames for the home side.

Swad Cons B edged their contest with Swad Snooker Centre E as Chris Vernon gathered both frames for the 5-3 win.

Newhall A went back to the top of Rileys Division Three with a 6- 2 win away at Alrewas B. Callum Gray scored the top break of 36 in this fixture.

Third placed Tutbury C came unstuck against fourth placed Stapenhill D, who dropped only two frames to win 6-2.

A fine break of 31 by Doug Lees helped Belmont D beat Woodville Working Mens Club B 5-3.
