GRESLEY boss Gary Norton is set to give some fringe players a chance to impress when his side takes on Ashby Ivanhoe tonight.
The Moatmen face Leicestershire Senior League outfit Ashby in the first round of the Coalville Charity Cup at the Moat Ground, kick-off 7.30pm.
And there could be opportunities for the likes of Ryan Walker and Mickey Lyons could get a start, while Jordan Nadat is expected to appear up front to get fit following a three-match suspension.
“We’ll have a little look at one or two things tonight,” said Norton. “Jordan Nadat’s clear of suspension and Jamie Barrett is in the squad after he was ill at the weekend and missed Saturday’s game.
“There are one or two other lads we want to have a look at.”
Louis Hamilton could start wide on the right after his late goal in the 4-2 Evo-Stik NPL First Division South defeat at Halesowen Town on Saturday.
This would allow Dean Rathbone a possible chance to impress in the centre of midfield.
“Dean can play anywhere across the midfield,” said Norton. “He’s very comfortable in the middle and does prefer playing there.”
Norton was disappointed with his defence on Saturday after they leaked four goals – but was pleased with the response he got after a half-time rollocking.
“We’ve got to defend a lot better at this level,” said Norton. “The only positives we can take, apart from the goals, was the way the guys reacted to what was said at half-time.”
Defender Michael Nottingham (knock) is a doubt tonight, while striker Richard Hanslow (back) will probably not be risked.
