GRESLEY manager Martin Rowe has tipped Kieran O’Connell to become a fans’ favourite after joining the club earlier this week.
The striker joined from Stafford Rangers prior to Monday night’s dismal defeat at home to Bedworth United, and although he could not trouble the scorers in that game, Rowe (pictured) was impressed and is likely to keep faith with the new signing for tomorrow’s trip to Kettering Town, kick-off 3pm.
He said: “He played exceptionally well, and he’s going to be one of the favourites with the supporters this season.
“He looks a very comfortable player and he’s only going to improve us.”
O’Connell’s arrival has led to Richard Hanslow ending his time at the club.
“Itchy has decided to leave as he’s looking for regular football, which I can’t offer.
“I’d like to thank him for what he’s done for the club, and he’s been a really good squad player for us.”
Gresley dropped into the bottom three of the Evo-Stik NPL Division One South with Monday’s reverse, and Rowe said: “It’s no good moping, we’ve got to get on with it.
“Kettering are going to be very similar to Scarborough (a 1-0 away win) as we’ll be the underdogs, but we tend to perform better with our backs against the wall.”
Danny Holmes and Marc Strzyzewski are suspended, Gary Hateley is awayand Jordan Nadat (back) will not return until next week.
But Matt Roome (mouth), Dean Oliver (hamstring) and Rob Spencer (ankle) are fit.
