Hawkin breaks into the top 50 at Ashby Five

ANDY Hawkin impressed for host club South Derbyshire Road Runners at the Ashby Five, finishing 48th in a chip time of 29 mins 33 seconds.

Gavin Horton clocked 33.59 for 167th place from Jack Leafe (pictured) who ran well for 35.08 and 218th place – just getting the better of Christina Cooper who crossed the line in 35.34 to finish 25th in the women’s race.

Club debutant Laura Storer ran well for 40.46 and 78th female, finishing ahead of the more experienced Colin Topliss (40.48). Tim Argent clocked a time of 43.55.

Louise Insley put her hard winter training to good use, clocking 32.12 in the Weston Five for 36th overall and the WV35 prize.

On Saturday Steve Leafe, Mark Nixon and Rob Belcher competed in the annual Belvoir Challenge.

Leafe and Nixon opted for the shorter 15-mile challenge while Belcher tackled the 26-mile option.

Belcher finished 109th out of 284 finishers in 4:51.08. Leafe and Nixon finished 2:01.02 and 2:11.55 respectively, for 27th and 61st out of the 684 finishers.
