TRENT Rowing Club reigned supreme yet again at the Stourport Regatta, winning a total of 10 events, 27 poits and taking the Junior Victor Ludorum Trophy for the best junior club of the weekend.
Thirty athletes from both the junior and senior team headed to Worcestershire for a two-day competition over a downstream course of 1,100 metres on Saturday and a 600m sprint on Sunday.
Saturday’s single sculling events saw wins from Sophie McMahon in the Junior 13 and Lucy Holgate in the Junior 14 categories.
The Junior 15 double sculls conquered in both men’s and women’s with Jade and Jazmine Smith followed by Oliver Benton and Scott Smith.
There were then a further two wins in the quadruple sculls with Anna Cresswell, Eloise McMahon, Kellie Hathaway and Lucy McQuoney claiming the women’s junior 17 event before Jess Gilbert teamed up with the Smiths, McQuoney and cox Millie Benton in the Junior 15.
Sunday being a shorter course meant the crews needed to be on full power from the start to prevent the opposition from taking control.
Junior 15 single sculler Oliver Benton did this by maintaining his record in this event at Stourport for the second year running.
Cresswell joined McMahon to race in the Junior 17 double sculls, spectacularly winning their heat, semi and final.
There was a slight change in crew on the Sunday for the Junior 15 quad, which consisted of Jade and Jazmine Smith, Holgate, Gilbert and cox Millie Benton.
Winning comfortably, this mix made no difference to the outcome, showing strength and excellent team working skills.
The senior win of the weekend came from the Intermediate Level Three Quadruple Sculls of Jack McDonagh, Karl Benton, Derek Smith and Luke McDonagh.
