UTTOXETER Road Runner Rob Hall battled in vain to defend his title at the Xtreme Challenge at Catton Hall near Burton.

The 10k event, consisting of a two-lap circuit made up of steep gradients, deadly declines, man-made obstacles, tunnels, 12ft hay bales and icy water, attracted a field of 200.
And Hall was forced to settle for fifth spot after clocking 39.54. The race was won by Tanausu Castellano in a superb time of 36.58.
Hall said: “I didn’t do too badly as I’ve been off for three months with an injury. The electric fence under the cargo nets was a nice surprise, although I did start to worry when my hands were still green after 45 minutes”
Uttoxeter Road Runners also sent a squad of 10 to the popular Alsager 5 who were leg home by Owen Barron in 31.28.
Catherine Turner was first female Road Runner over the line in 38.15.
