Staffordshire's poet laureate composes poems for war centenary

READINGS of poignant poems about the outbreak of the First World War have been performed at the National Memorial Arboretum.

The pieces, written by Staffordshire Poet Laureate Tom Wyre, are part of a quartet of poems starting with the outbreak of war, taking people through the trenches and finally to the impact of the conflict on loved ones back at home.

County councillor Mike Lawrence, pictured, described the poems as 'important'.
