GRESLEY will welcome Jack Langston back with open arms next season after the young midfielder performed a swift U-turn.

The former Rocester star left the Moatmen in March to join Chasetown, a club closer to home.

However, after accepting that was the wrong decision, he has agreed to return to the Moat Ground for the 2014/15 season.

“We were speaking to him all the way through and he’s definitely going to be here next season,” said manager Martin Rowe.

“He admits he made a mistake and there’s no hard feelings there.

“He did it for the right reasons, but realised it wasn’t for him.

“He just needs to get fit and we’ve given him a training pack to work to over the summer.”

Rowe is hopeful that the majority of the squad who finished ninth last season will stick together, though winger Paolo Piliero will not be returning.

“We have lost one,” admitted Rowe.

“Paolo has decided to leave due to personal reasons, and we respect that. He’s going to play for a club closer to home.”

Rowe has also agreed in principle for six new players to join for the forthcoming campaign but said: “Until they’re signed on that dotted line, you never know. I can’t really say anything about them until they’re down at the club.

“I’ve spoken to all the current players and they’ve all agreed they will stay next season.

“Sometimes they say that and other things happen and they may get better offers, but the atmosphere in the dressing room is very good and we are very positive about next year.”

Royce Turville will not be returning next season after an injury-ravaged campaign led to the striker taking a break to think about his footballing future.

He received a fine send-off in Gresley’s final game of 2013/14 and Rowe said: “He’s the first legend of Gresley FC.

“It was a good day for Royce - the crowd got behind him and gave him a real nice response.

“The loudest applause was for Royce and Rob Spencer. They’re both hard-working players and they give their all for Gresley and that’s what the crowd likes to see.

“They are big favourites here at Gresley.”

Gresley return for pre-season training on July 1 ahead of their first friendly against Solihull Moors on July 15.
