STEVE McClaren says Derby County’s new signing Alefe Santos has the potential and determination to improve.
Santos, a Brazilian-born 19-year-old winger, has joined the Rams on a two-year deal.
He progressed through the youth system at Bristol Rovers and turned down the offer of a new contract this summer.
This sparked a race for the youngster and Premier League side Hull City appeared to be leading the way, with Celtic were reported to be interested, but Derby nipped in.
“He (Santos) is a player with potential and has the determination to improve, so we are looking forward to working with him,” said head coach McClaren.
Santos was born in Sao Paulo and moved to England at the age of 12.
He started his career as a schoolboy at Bristol Rovers and signed his first professional contract in 2013.
His record with Rovers was 28 appearances including eight starts, and one goal. He played 27 times last season.
