RESIDENTS close to a site where a £20 million golf course is being built have been complaining of strong smells in the last few days.
The smell is caused by biosolids that were put on the Tetron site off William Nadin Way in Swadlincote in the spring.
The biosolids were covered with compost to reduce the smell but equipment being used on the site to cultivate the soil has generated more smell than was expected.
Council officers have been to the site to see what can be done to reduce the odour but with no obvious solution, it is expected that the smell will persist until cultivation ends at the end of the week, dependant on the weather.
The next stage of the site restoration involves a manual removal of rocks and stones.
