STAFF from a supermarket in South Derbyshire are to take part in a 20-mile walk to raise funds for Comic Relief.

Fifteen members of staff from Sainsbury’s in Swadlincote are set to get up early tomorrow to participate in the event which will begin at the Civic Way store at 8am.

The workers will then hike into Burton and Tutbury before having to do it all over again and make the return trip.

Jenny Laud, from the store, was involved in organising the event.

She will be responsible for providing workers with refreshments and motivation during the event as she is unable to take part herself.

The group will stop off at pubs along the route, but while a much-needed beer may be in order, staff will only be able to take on water, at least until the end of the challenge.

Although perhaps not overly-impressed with having to give up their Sunday morning, Mrs Laud insists everybody is ready for the challenge.

She said: “We’re all looking forward to it. Some of them are saying it’s going to be long.”

Sainsbury’s are a keen supporter of Comic Relief, often raising money through various events at its stores.

Mrs Laud added: “It should be a good event, it’s a chance for everyone to get together outside the working environment and do something for a good cause.”
