THE main post office in South Derbyshire will be closed for nearly two weeks for major works to modernise the site.
Swadlincote Post Office, in The Delph, Market Street, will soon have extended opening hours and more services on offer as part of the overhaul.
The changes will mean that people will be able to access the site 12 hours more than before – but the site will close from August 19 to 30 for refurbishment to take place.
Caroline Pritchard, area manager for the Post Office, said: "We know how important post office services are to residents in Swadlincote and we are confident that this vibrant modern post office at the heart of the community will be popular.
"The modernisation is part of a major Government investment programme that is enabling us to continue investing in the Post Office network and to map out a bold growth strategy through to the end of the decade.
"Residents and small business customers will be able to access the full range of Post Office services during the extended opening hours – 12 hours a week more than previously offered."
The changes will see opening hours extended from 8am to 6.30pm from Monday to Saturday.
The service, which will launch at 1pm on Saturday, August 20, will be provided from five counters including two new style open-plan positions, two fortress positions and a combi-counter, where the customers can access Post Office services .
Swadlincote Post Office will close at 5:30pm on Tuesday, August 19, for the refurbishment to take place.
During the closure, services may be accessed from other branches in the area including in Newhall Post Office, in High Street, Newhall or at Asda, off Orchard Street, Burton.
