Swadlincote burglary rise

POLICE chiefs are urging people to "shut your door" after an increase in burglaries in South Derbyshire during the hot weather.

A recent spike in break-ins through doors and windows being left open has prompted Derbyshire police to move to try and crackdown on the problem across the area.

They have urged people to secure their doors and windows, especially at night and if they are going out.

Insp Nigel Lidsey said: "We have started to see a rise in the number of burglaries that are related to criminals getting into homes by doors and windows being left open."
