A LORRY driver has been fined hundreds of pounds for driving his truck across the historic Swarkestone Bridge in South Derbyshire when it exceeded weight restrictions
John Shaw was convicted at court in his absence of driving his Mans truck over the ancient causeway on November 6 last year.
The bridge has a weight limit of 7.5-tonnes which Shaw's lorry was over.
The 36-year-old, of Wirksworth Road, Ilkeston, was fined £600.
He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £80 and a £60 victim surcharge after the case was heard at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court.
The causeway was part of the king's highway when it was built in the 13th century.
