SWIMMING lessons in North West Leicestershire will be undergoing a major transformation from September.

The NWL Swim Academy at Hood Park Leisure Centre, in Ashby, will be following the Amateur Swim Association's National Plan to help children move through stages more quickly and not have to wait until the end of a 12-week course to progress.

The plan also gives children the chance to learn lifesaving and synchronised swimming.

Parents will also benefit from the new course as progress and attendance is recorded digitally at the poolside and can be viewed using 'NWL Swim Academy online'.

Changes will take place from Saturday, September 27 with prices starting from £12.92.

Councillor Alison Smith, of North West Leicestershire District Council, welcomes the change to aid children in learning to swim.

She said: "We're very excited about our new NWL Swim Academy, with its excellent learning programme and improved technology, making things much better for the children learning to swim and parents when monitoring progress, booking and paying.

"I hope the NWL Swim Academy will build on that success and get lots more North West Leicestershire children swimming and confident in the water."

More information is available by calling Hood Park Leisure Centre on 01530 412181.
