A 13-YEAR-OLD girl was punched in the face by a drunken man as she was walking through a wooded area.
The teenager was alone in Rolleston Woods when she was approached by the stranger, believed to be around 20 years old, and attacked.
Police are now hunting for the assailant, who was wearing a black hat and a navy blue tracksuit when he struck as the night drew in.
Inspector Tyrone Kerr, of Burton Police Station, said: “The lone female was approached by a drunken male in Rolleston Woods.
“The man repeatedly asked her where she lived and, when she refused to tell him, he punched her to the face, causing bruising to her right cheek.”
Insp Kerr said the girl’s injuries were not serious but she had been left ‘frightened and shaken’ by the assault.
He said there was no obvious motive for the attack as the man had not tried to steal any of the girl’s possessions or gone on to sexually assault her.
Insp Kerr said: “The man we want to speak to is described as a white male, aged around 20, he is 5ft 7ins tall, of slim build and with dark brown hair.
“He was wearing a black hat and a navy blue tracksuit.”
The officer made a plea for anyone who witnessed the attack or saw the man at around 4pm on November 7 in Rolleston Woods to contact police.
Insp Kerr said: “We want to talk to anyone with any knowledge of this incident or who knows who this male is.
“This was an unusual incident and I would like to urge anyone who saw it to come forward.”
Witnesses are asked to call Staffordshire police by dialing 101 and quoting incident number 277 of November 10.
