A MAN who held terrified staff at gunpoint at a South Derbyshire store before being spooked by a customer is thought to be a teenager.

Police have charged 19-year-old Ryan Jarvis over the incident in which he is alleged to have pointed a gun at shopkeeper Kulwat Rai at Granville Stores, in Woodville, and demanded cash earlier this month.

Jarvis has also been charged in relation to six burglaries across South Derbyshire since 2011.

A manhunt was immediately launched by Derbyshire Police following the incident on March 6.

CCTV footage showed a man clad in white overalls enter the store, in Swadlincote Road, and pull a gun out of his bag.

But his attempts to rob the store were interrupted by a regular customer who forced the attacker out of the shop.

Police said Jarvis, of no fixed address, was remanded in custody and was due to appear before magistrates in South Derbyshire this week.
