THE founder of a charity which provides holidays for families of children with serious illnesses has been nominated for an award in a national televised competition.
ITV spent several hours with Ticknall-based Maria Hanson, founder of Me & Dee, on Thursday, interviewing and filming her.
It can now be revealed that she has beaten off tough competition from hundreds of other charities to be declared a regional finalist for the Pride of Britain Awards.
Me & Dee is now in the top four for East Midlands fund-raiser category.
The four finalists will be shown on ITV on September 8, 9, 10 and 11 and the winner will go through to the television finals.
They will be picked by a celebrity who watches the four two-minute films for each finalist
Ms Hanson, who has been battling her own illnesses, said: "Thanks to Rose M Unwin for the nomination which got through to the first leg before the hurdles of judges to get to this point, and thank you to those who have supported the nomination and added theirs.
"Thank you so very much and thank you for your belief in me and Me & Dee."
