TIME is running out for South Derbyshire householders to buy a discounted compost bin before a price increase comes in at the start of April.
Currently the cheapest compost bin through Derbyshire County Council’s discount scheme is £16 plus a £5.49 delivery charge.
Councillor John Allsop, Derbyshire County Council’s cabinet member for recycling and technology, said: “I’d encourage anyone thinking of getting into composting to buy a bin before the end of March to save that little bit extra.
“Composting is simple to do and once you get started you’ll be surprised at just how much daily household waste can be recycled this way.
“We want to help South Derbyshire residents reduce the amount of waste that they send to landfill. Composting at home is a great way of achieving this and also helps protect the environment.
“Householders can also save money by composting as they will find a reduced need to buy peat or compost.”
More than a third of household waste is made up of organic material which can be composted.
