AN Olympic Torch bearer has officially opened a new hairdressing salon in Swadlincote.

Barbara Green, who carried the flame in Nottingham, declared AB Hairdressing, in Church Street, open on Saturday afternoon.

The salon’s arrival has created three jobs after relocating from its former base in Burton High Street.

Owner Aaron Best, whose initials are borne in the business’s name, said: “It was great to have an Olympic Torch bearer there with us at the opening.

“It was a mad rush to make sure we were ready on time but the day went really well.

“I was there until 1am the night before to make sure everything was perfect.”

Mr Best, 29, of Rosecroft Gardens, Church Gresley, made headlines in November last year when he appeared on hit Channel 4 game show Deal or No Deal and won £15,000.

He told the Mail: “I shared my old salon in Burton with a beauty therapist but now we’re in Swadlincote we’re focusing much more on hair.”

Mr Best decided to relocate from Burton to Swadlincote after separating from his girlfriend, with whom he ran the previous salon.

He said: “This is a new start. We have tried to make this salon a relaxing place.

“Our opening day went very well and I hope it continues like this.

“We took about £250 of bookings during the first few hours.”

Torch bearer Barbara Green agreed to open the salon because a friend of hers has been one of Mr Best’s customers for the past six years.

Mr Best has worked in hairdressing for the past 11 years following a brief stint working for an architecture firm in Stafford.

“I fell in love with hairdressing and haven’t looked back since,” he said.
