A DANCE crew has been given a colourful makeover in its new permanent home as part for a community project.

The Touch of Life Dance Crew has now revealed a brand new look, following a makeover from Dulux Decorator Centres, in Canal Street, Burton.

The dance school - which was established in 2004 - is a non-profit organisation, run entirely by volunteers who provide urban dance activities for young people, aged from five to 25, in the local area.

After recently securing a permanent teaching venue, in Queen Street, Burton, the dancers and their teachers were looking forward to moving into their new base, but not before it had been completely personalised with a bright colour scheme.

A team of volunteers rolled up their sleeves to transform the dance studio - which welcomes between 80 and 100 dancers through its doors each week - using brushes, rollers and Dulux Trade paints in yellow, green, red and black, with the dance school’s logo incorporated into the design.

The makeover was completed as part of Dulux Decorator Centres’ Colouring the Community scheme, after dance club chairman, Dean Carruthers, contacted the local store. The scheme aims to help local community groups and charities restore their premises and surrounding areas.

He said: “After years of moving from studio to studio, we were so happy to finally have a space to call our own, but the building really needed an injection of colour.

“We wanted to make sure the dancers stamped their identity onto their studio and they have all felt involved with the project, right from the designing stage. We’re really grateful for the donated paint and materials, as they’ve made such a difference to our new home.”

John Wyke, manager of Dulux Decorator Centres, in Burton, said: “We enjoy helping great causes like this in our local area and we’re glad the dance studio has been brought to life with a vibrant colour scheme. We hope the dancers make the most of their new, colourful space for years to come.”

Local charities and community groups wishing to apply for a Colouring the Community award can find their nearest store, and apply online, by visiting www.duluxdecoratorcentre.co.uk
