A CAR manufacturer based in South Derbyshire has sold more new cars in the UK this year than in the same period last year.
Toyota, which is based at Burnaston, said that 56,885 cars were registered until the end of July, an increase on the 54,003 registered in the same period in 2013.
However, the firm, which makes both the Auris and Avensis at Burnaston, said the number of new cars sold in July was down on the same month last year.
The figures were published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. Chief executive Mike Hawes said the new car market was currently up by around 10 per cent compared to the figures recorded by the organisation last year.
He said: "July saw the new car market extend its record period of growth to a 29th month, as confident consumers took advantage of new products and attractive finance deals on the latest fuel-efficient cars."
