COMMUTERS in Burton faced a frustrating journey home on Tuesday night as traffic came to a near-standstill in the town.

Following a collision on the roundabout at the end of St Peter's Bridge in Stapenhill, vehicles travelling towards the A444 were backed up onto the bridge.

Motorists were also stuck in Derby Street due to ongoing roadworks.

One motorist said: "It felt like the entire town ground to a standstill. It took me nearly 45 minutes to get from the centre of town to Tesco.

"I know it can get particularly bad at that time of day, but nothing was moving and there didn't seem to be any major cause."
