A TEENAGE schoolgirl was robbed in a terrifying broad daylight ordeal as she walked home after an exam.

Detectives have now warned youngsters to be vigilant after the 16-year-old was confronted in Derby Road, Hilton.

The John Port School pupil handed over money to a young man who approached her after getting out of a dark red car.

In an unrelated event, police scrambled armed officers and dog units to Swadlincote after fears were raised of a man driving around with a gun.

Officers then arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of possessing a firearm in Sir Herbert Wragg Way at about 3pm today.

The man is thought to be local and was on his own when officers stopped him in his Fiat Punto. No weapon was found.
